HASKINS, Sam.

Item Number: 592

New York: Crown, 1962.

New York: Crown, 1962. First edition of Haskins’ first book. Large quarto, original red cloth. Signed by Sam Haskins on the front endpaper. Light rubbing to the bottom, near fine in a fine dust jacket with a modicum of rubbing. Also laid into this volume is a full color photographic print signed by Haskins. A very nice example.

Cowboy Kate's publication by Crown in 1965 contributed to Sam Haskins international reputation for signature photographic passions. It was one of the first 20th century artistic pieces to creatively use black-and-white photographic grain as a medium for expression and image design. After selling a million copies worldwide, Haskins won the Prix Nadar in France in 1964, and his book continues to influence artists of photography, film, and fashion nearly five decades after its publication. Cowboy Kate was the beginning of Haskins' success, and his other awards include the International Art Book Competition, Israel in 1969, the One Show Gold Medal, NY in 1974, and the Kodak book of the Year in 1980.
