American children's writer and illustrator Ellen Raskin's Figgs and Phantoms was a Newbery Honor Book in 1975; she later won the 1979 Newbery Medal for her subsequent young adult mystery novel, The Westing Game. Figgs & Phantoms centers on Mona Lisa Figg Newton, a teenage girl living in the fictional town of Pineapple with her eccentric family.
