First edition of the author’s second book, later translated into English as No One Writes to the Colonel. Octavo, original wrappers. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author in contemporary hand with his full signature, “Para Robert Kinsley, cordialamente Gabriel Garcia Marquez Mexico DF 1963.” In near fine condition with a trace of wear. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. An exceptional example of this rarity.
El coronel no tiene quien le escriba is considered by some to be within the realm of magic realism. ''A rare combination of grace and vibrancy. Every scene, every gesture, signs life and denies death...He is an absolute master" (New York Times). Basis for a 1999 film starring Salma Hayek.
