One of the primary artists of the High Renaissance, Italian painter Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino's work was admired for its clarity of form and ease of composition. Known colloquially as Raphael, he was extraordinarily productive, running an unusually large workshop and, despite his death at 37, leaving a large body of work, many of which is now housed in the Vatican Palace where the frescoed Raphael Rooms form the largest work of his lifetime.
