Pre-publication copy of the first edition of Sinclair’s Co-op, preceding the first edition. Octavo, original wrappers, as issued. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “To Aldous Huxley with best wishes Upton Sinclair.” A fine association linking these two great writers of the twentieth century literature. In very good condition with some rubbing and wear to the extremities.

Aldous Huxley and Upton Sinclair met in California in the late 1930’s where both had been invited by several Hollywood studios to produce scripts. British author Aldous Huxley left his native England in 1937 for California where he experienced continued success following the publication of his dystopian masterpiece, Brave New World. Sinclair published Co-op: A Novel of Living Together in 1936 when he was running in the California gubernatorial election with the End Poverty in California movement. Hollywood studio bosses unanimously opposed his agenda and a number of false propaganda films attacking Sinclair were produced. Although it was his most successful run for office, Sinclair was defeated by incumbent Governor Frank F. Merriam and returned to writing.
