First edition of this collaboration between the famed artist and composer. Oblong quarto, original boards. Inscribed by both Steve Reich and signed Gerhard Richter on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Wonderfully illustrated throughout by Richter’s paintings composed while listening to Reich’s work.

Richter has been hailed as an artist for contributing to the revival of popular interest in painting. His 2005 exhibition declared his place as a momentous artist amongst those of the 20th century. Richter has been the recipient of numerous distinguished awards: the Staatspreis of the State Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, in 2000; the Wexner Prize, 1998; the Praemium Imperiale, Japan, 1997; the Golden Lion of the 47th Biennale, Venice, 1997; the Wolf Prize in Israel; the Kaiserring Prize der Stadt Goslar, Mönchehaus-Museum für Moderne Kunst, Goslar, Germany, 1988; the Oskar Kokoschka Prize, Vienna, 1985; the Arnold Bode Prize, Kassel, 1981; and the Junger Western Art Prize, Germany, 1961. Indeed, his popularity has been such that Cologne made him an honorary citizen in 2007.
