Christina Alberta’s Father.

WELLS, H.G.

Item Number: 109052

London: Jonathan Cape Ltd, 1925.

First edition of Wells’ complex novel exploring individualism and society. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition. A very nice example.

Often referred to as the "father of science fiction", along with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback, English writer H.G. Wells was prolific in many genres, publishing dozens of novels and novellas in addition to treatises on social commentary, history, and two books on recreational war games. Starting off as a seemingly light-hearted novel of social realism, highlighting the class system of contemporary society, Christina Alberta's Father soon unfolds into critique of the then-current state of mental health legislation before ending in a discussion of the conflict between individual independence and being a willing part of a greater society.
