DIOR, Christian.

Item Number: 96175

Rare original program from the presentation of Christian Dior’s Paris Winter Collection at Blenheim Palace for Princess Margaret on November 3rd, 1954. Folio, original colored illustrated wrappers. In near fine condition.

The stylish Princess Margaret became a devotee of Christian Dior with the launch of his New Look in 1947, when a private viewing was held for the Royal Family at the French Embassy in London. Dior was equally devoted to Princess Margaret, and once described her as "a real fairy-tale princess, delicate, graceful, exquisite." Princess Margaret's many Dior dresses included the iconic, fairy-tale-like white ballgown which she wore in her 21st birthday portrait by Cecil Beaton. Dior presented 100 couture pieces on 13 models at the 1954 fashion show at Blenheim Palace before 1,600 guests. The Telegraph reported that Princess Margaret wore "a black velvet afternoon dress with fitted waist and full skirt, a mink cape, and a tiny black hat encircles with white fur" to the event.
