Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

“This is a lucky one": First Edition, First Issue of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Signed by Roald Dahl

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

DAHL, Roald.

Item Number: 63050

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1964.

First edition, first issue with the six line colophon on the last page. First-issue dust jacket, without the ISBN number on the rear panel. Octavo, original red cloth. Illustrated by Joseph Schindelman. Boldly signed by the author on the front free endpaper, “Roald Dahl This is a lucky one R.D.” Dahl must be referring to the scarcity of this first edition, as it was already a difficult book to locate, as it went through multiple printings over the course of decades. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with some light rubbing to the crown and foot of the spine. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. Rare and unique.

"Charlie earned for its author a cult following among child readers Dahl has been called a literary genius; his books have been considered modern fairy tales" (Silvey, 186). "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is already a great classic work [and] one of the most enduring post-war children’s books Dahl is undeniably special" (Connolly, 102).
