Rare original Utah Southern Railroad Company uncashed check signed by Brigham Young. Partially printed document signed “Brigham Young” as President and “George Swan” as Secretary, United States Internal Revenue two cents stamp, dated March 27th, 1872. Written to the order of $165.04 from the treasurer of the UCRB. In near fine condition with toning and mailing creases.

Brigham Young was a religious leader, politician, and settler. He was the second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1847 until his death in 1877. He founded Salt Lake City and served as the first governor of the Utah Territory. Young also led the foundings of the precursors to the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. The Utah Southern Railroad Company, incorporated in the 1870s, was initially financed and controlled by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before being absorbed into the Union Pacific Railroad system.
