Frequent attempts to censor the children's novel have been made, and Bridge to Terabithia has appeared numbered eight on the American Library Association list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990-2000. The Nation Council of English Teacher's curriculum revealed that some of the censorship attempts have been from the inclusion of death in the plot of a children's novel ("Why Bridge to Terabithia Should Not Be Banned," 2007). Other reasons are, for example, what has been taken by the ALA to be blasphemy by the character Jess and said promotions of secular humanism and New Age religion.
