Behind the Unemployment Numbers.

FRIEDMAN, Milton.

Item Number: 88096

New York: Newsweek, 1977.

Magazine article from the February 7th, 1977 issue of Newsweek written by Nobel prize-winning economist Milton Friedman. One page typescript. Inscribed by Milton Friedman, “For Diane Robert, Milton Friedman March 22nd 1977.” In near fine condition.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman theorized that there was a "natural" rate of unemployment that protected the balance of the monetary system. He argued that employment below this rate would cause the acceleration of inflation and lead to stagflation in which the inflation rate is high, the economic growth rate slows, and unemployment remains steadily high.
