Signed limited first edition of this amusing account of the 19th-century dandy, number 250 of only 550 copies (500 of which were offered for sale), signed on the verso of the half-title page by Virginia Woolf in her characteristic purple ink. Quarto, original half gilt-stamped red cloth, gray paper boards, mounted cover illustration, top edge gilt. Near fine in the rare original slipcase, which is in very good condition. Uncommon in this condition.

First published in the Nation & Athenaeum (September 28, 1929), Woolf's essay describes the life, habits and unfortunate end of Beau Brummel, early 19th-century arbiter of fashion. Designed and decorated with two color illustrations by W.A. Dwiggins and printed by William Edwin Rudge.
