RARE ANTIQUE POSTCARD COLLECTION ALBUM

Antique Postcard Collection Album.

Item Number: 116052

Rare collection of hundreds antique postcards postmarked in the early 1900s. From the collection of Dora Sims. Oblong quarto, bound in patterned cloth. The collection includes postcards with scenic views of Paris, Bermuda, Florence, Maine, California, New Hampshire, and New Jersey. In very good condition. A bright collection.

Production of postcards blossomed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The first known printed picture postcard, with an image on one side, was created in France in 1870 and private advertising cards started appearing in the United States around 1873, and qualified for a special postage rate of one cent. The backs of these private cards contained the words "Correspondence Card", "Mail Card" or "Souvenir Card" and required two-cent postage if they were written upon.
