Item Number: 124655

New York: Andy Warhol Books/ Grosset & Dunlap, 1979.

First edition of Warhol’s candid and engaging photobook. Quarto, original cloth, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by Andy Warhol on the half-title, who has added a drawing of a heart and his initials below, “To Mel Gamil Love Andy Warhol.” Warhol has also signed the dust jacket. Additionally signed by fashion icon Jackie Rogers beneath her photograph with Mick Jagger on page 11, “Jackie Rogers only the best.” Famed muse, model and fashion designer Jaqueline “Jackie” Rogers began her career alongside Coco Chanel in Europe and has acted for Italian director Federico Fellini; modeled for Coco Chanel; and designed for the likes of Diana Ross, Barbara Walters and Elizabeth Taylor. She remains a staple name in fashion and a timeless name in design. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. A unique example.

“I don’t think Studio 54 is like pagan Rome. I think it’s like junior high school.” This collection of Warhol’s photographs includes wonderful sections on President Jimmy Carter, Truman Capote, Dali, Studio 54 and numerous celebrities, artists and musicians. The impromptu artistry of Exposures and other photobooks, expressing “the freewheeling existential exuberance and energy of Warhol… [became] a primary inspiration for the Japanese photobook” (Parr & Badger II:144).
