Rare 18th century Homann Heirs map of the Western Hemisphere. One page, the map depicts in detail North and South America as well as western portions of Europe and Africa with a large decorative cartouche. Homann’s second map of the Western Hemisphere, the present map provided new details in the interior of North America particularly along the Mississippi River. At the time of publication the Northwest coast of America and the Northwest Passage were still undiscovered. Matted and framed. The entire piece measures 31.25 inches by 29.25 inches. In fine condition.

German engraver and publisher Johann Baptist Homann and his family were the most famous German map publishers of the mid-18th century. Following Homann's death in 1724, the business continued under the name Homann Heirs with their most recognizable maps being the present Americae Mappa generalis and the Mappe Monde Planiglobii Terrestris.
