Item Number: 110458

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1923.

First edition of Wharton’s popular war novella. Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles to the spine and front panel. In near fine condition.

American novelist, short story writer, playwright, and designer Edith Wharton drew upon her insider's knowledge of the upper class New York "aristocracy" to realistically portray the lives and morals of the Gilded Age. Throughout World War I, she wrote several novels and articles encouraging Americans to support the war effort and enter the war. She wrote A Son at the Front in 1919, (though it was not published until 1923) and in 1921, she was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature.
