John Buchan (1875–1940) was a Scottish novelist, historian, and statesman whose diverse career bridged literature, politics, and imperial service. 'A Prince of the Captivity' tells the story of Adam Melfort, a decorated World War I officer whose life unravels after he takes the blame for his wife’s forgery and is imprisoned. Upon his release, Melfort becomes involved in covert government missions that lead him across Europe, where he grapples with questions of duty, sacrifice, and moral purpose in a rapidly changing world.
