First American edition and advance review copy of Woolf’s final collection of short stories. Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles to the spine. With the publisher’s advance review copy slip dated April 13th 1944 affixed to the front free endpaper. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Jacket design by Vanessa Bell.

Shortly before her death, Woolf decided to prepare a second volume of short stories which would include most of those published in 'Monday or Tuesday' (the only volume of short stories published during her lifetime) as well as some published subsequently in magazines or hitherto unpublished. Two years after her death, her husband Leonard attempted to carry out her intention with the present volume, which contains A Haunted House, The String Quartet, The Lady in the Looking-Glass, and The Searchlight among others.
