A Christmas Story.

BURTON, Richard.

Item Number: 136238

New York: William Morrow & Company, Inc, 1964.

First edition of the celebrated actor’s first literary work. Octavo, original half cloth, illustrated with drawings by Lydia Fruhauf. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “Xmas 1964. To Helen & Dudley Yard with very good wishes Richard Burton.” Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket illustration by Lydia Fruhauf. Author photograph of Richard Burton in the role of Hamlet by Henry Grossman.

Autobiographical in tone, Richard Burton's A Christmas Story is told from the point of view of an eight-year-old boy living in a Welsh mining town similar to the one in which the author, himself, spent his childhood. Burton often expressed that he would rather be a writer than an actor, and this, his first literary work and a truly memorable tale, shows proof of that heartfelt ambition.
