Boualem Sansal is an Algerian author who writes in French, and his work has won top literary awards in France, among them the Prix du Premier Roman in 1999. His debut novel was Le serment des Barbares, which was the basis for the screenplay written by Jorge Semprún. He was awarded the 2015 Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française for 2084: la fin du monde.
