Conley, You will please forgive one for my inability to reply to your letter earlier. As you may have noticed I have been wandering all the time. I am at present at Thithal leaving Bombay on 24th Oct for Bengal. I am afraid therefore that we cannot meet before the … Your serv MK Gandhi 25 4 25 Tithal.” The postcard measures 5.5 inches by 3.5 inches. In near fine condition. Rare and desirable.

Rare Mohandas K. Gandhi autograph, signed at the height of the struggle for Indian Independence. Signed by Gandhi, “M.K. Gandhi 28-12-38 Segaon-Wardha.” Eight miles from the city of Wardha, the Indian village of Segoan became the site of Gandhi’s Sevagram Ashram, established in 1936 when Gandhi was 67 years old. Gandhi renamed the site Sevagram, meaning “village of service”, and resided there until his death by assassination in 1948. In near fine condition. Double matted and framed with a large photograph of Gandhi. The entire piece measures 21 inches by 16.5 inches.

Boldly signed by both Nelson Mandela and the photographer, Jurgen Schadeberg, who has signed on the bottom right panel and signed and stamped the verso. Schadeberg’s image was voted as one of the 50 most memorable images of the 20th century by The Photographers Gallery in London. The images measures 11 inches by 14 inches. Matted and framed. The entire piece measures 17.5 inches by 21.5 inches. This photograph has been used numerous times in publicity; providing the cover image for Mandela’s “Illustrated Long Walk To Freedom.” A striking image, most rare signed by one of the greatest leaders of the twentieth century.

That is a tower to look out for pirates – We miss you very much. Love from Caroline & Mummy.” Written on a postcard from Amalfi which she has addressed to “Master J.F. Kennedy Jr.” The verso shows a colorful illustration of the seashore including a horse-drawn cart, beach, stone tower, and village. Accompanied by a White House envelope with the typed return address, “Villa l’Episcopio RAVELLO, ITALIA.” Double matted and framed opposite of photograph of the Kennedy family. The entire piece measures 15 inches by 19 inches.

Quarto, bound in full red contemporary velvet covered boards with two metal clasps, containing five illuminated leaves, two fully illuminated in color with the Royal coat of arms and portrait of King Charles II, text in Spanish. Signed by King Charles II, “Yo el Rey” and additionally signed by several Royal secretaries. Bound with a printed manuscript of the Oath of Fidelity to the King of Spain with Royal stamps dated 1701 and with two autograph letters laid in, the first dated September 17, 1701 and signed by Philip V, and the second addressed to the Marquis. Exceptionally rare.

First edition of Confederate military officer Wade Hampton’s biography of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Octavo, original green publisher’s cloth with gilt titles to the front panel, engraved tailpiece. Association copy, signed three times by the only President of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis, on the pastedown, “Jefferson Davis Memphis Dec. 1871,” the front free endpaper, “Jefferson Davis,” and opposite the final page of text, “Jefferson Davis 1871.” Davis served as the only President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 until 1865 when has was captured, accused of treason an imprisoned at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia. He was never tried and was released after two years. While not disgraced, Davis was displaced in ex-Confederate affection after the war by his leading general, Robert E. Lee. Soon after Lee’s death on October 12, 1870, Davis was pardoned from the charge of treason by President Andrew Johnson. General Wade Hampton III commanded the Cavalry Corps, Army of Northern Virginia directly under Robert E. Lee. An exceptional association linking three leaders of the Confederate States of America.

Rare collection of Rough Riders Photographs and Documents; Twice signed and inscribed by Theodore Roosevelt

Rare collection of original signed documents and photographs taken during President Theodore Roosevelt’s days as Colonel of the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry, or Rough Riders. The collection includes an original mounted photograph of Roosevelt in full uniform with his campaign hat; two cabinet card photographs of Albert S. Johnson, a member of the Cavalry; an endorsement dated September 7, 1998 which reads in part, “This officer did not serve in Cuba but remained in Florida with the squadron left behind” signed, “T. Roosevelt” which is affixed to the verso of of Albert S. Johnson’s 5 September 1898 application for 60-days leave; and a military record discharging Johnson from the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry with remarks from Captain R.H. Bruce and Theodore Roosevelt, “Did not serve under me personally; is reported to me as a good and loyal officer. T. Roosevelt col 1st U.S.V.” Johnson’s application for leave was ultimately denied as his regiment was about to be disbanded and taken out of service. In near fine condition. An exceptional collection. Documents from Roosevelt’s Rough Rider days are rare.
