Mareau.” Signed boldly at the conclusion by Grant. Accompanied by a small folder of papers generated from the National Archives which provide information on the pardon of H.H. Mareau whose offense was “issuing business cards in likeness of Treasury notes.” Matted and framed.

Rare first edition of Neustadt’s fundamental examination of presidential power, which upon publication immediately prompted John F. Kennedy to hire him as his advisor, speechwriter and confidante. Octavo, original half cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, “For Lou Kushnick with warm regards and the hope that he’ll enjoy the career we got him into! Richard E. Neustadt November 26,1962.” The recipient Lou Kushnick is an academic specializing in race relations and a was a friend of the author. With Kushnick’s name in pencil to the front free endpaper, a few notes in the recipients hand, near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition.

Rare oloegraphic portrait of Abraham Lincoln by E.C. Middleton. With Middleton’s Warranted Oil Colors imprint to the verso of the frame dated 1864. Between 1861 and 1873, E.C. Middleton of Cincinnati published a series oval oleographic portraits intended to have the appearance of oil paintings including thirteen “Portraits of American Statesmen and Heroes.” Middleton invented the method of oleography which used the process of chromolithographic printing with oil based inks mounted on canvas. The portraits were exclusively sold in frames directly through agents by subscription. In fine condition. Framed. The portrait measures 17 inches by 14 inches. The entire piece measures 22 inches by 19 inches. Rare and desirable.

Johnson and additionally inscribed by Lady Bird, as follows, “To Mary Lasker from her friends Lady Bird Johnson Christmas 1966. The recipient Mary Lasker was an American health activist and philanthropist, who worked to raise funds for medical research and founded the Lasker Foundation. She helped convince Eleanor Roosevelt to endorse Lyndon Johnson’s efforts to become the 1960 Democratic nominee, and Lady Bird glowingly mentions Lasker in her book A White House Diary. Lasker was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969. The photograph measures 8.25 inches by 11.5 inches. Double matted and framed; the entire piece measures 15 inches by 17 inches.
