First edition of Balfour’s Inaugural Address delivered on his installation as Lord Rector . Octavo, bound in full calf with Balfour’s signature stamped in gilt to the front panel. Presentation copy, inscribed by Arthur James Balfour on the front free endpaper, “‘B. Mallet, with the kindest regards of Arthur James Balfour. 18.8.92.” The recipient, Bernard Mallet, later Sir Bernard Mallet, was a civil servant who served as Balfour’s private secretary. Later, he was Registrar General and President of the Royal Statistical Society from 1916 to 1918. He married Marie Adeane, who at various times was a Maid of Honour to Queen Victoria and had two sons, one of whom was Sir Victor Mallet, the diplomat. In very good condition.

Jack Horner, served as President of the White House Correspondents Association and covered Presidents from FDR to Gerald Ford. President Johnson often invited favored reporters to the LBJ Ranch, including Horner on multiple occasions throughout his Presidency. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket.

Once referred to as “the greatest builder of Jerusalem since Herod,” Kollek essentially developed Jerusalem into a modern city after its reunification in 1967. In near fine condition. Rare Civil War era endorsement signed by Abraham Lincoln as President. Dated March 14, 1864, the endorsement reads, “Submitted to the Sec. of War & Gen. Meade. A. Lincoln, March 14, 1864.” In fine condition. On March 14, 1864 Lincoln issued an order for the draft of 200,000 men to support the Union effort. Only two days prior, General Ulysses S. Grant assumed command of the Union armies. Matted and framed with and engraved portrait of Lincoln and gold biographical plaque. The endorsement measures 3.25 inches by 2.75 inches. The entire piece measures 22.75 inches by 19 inches.
