First edition of the shooting script of Milos Forman's acclaimed film The People vs. Larry Flynt, printing the complete screenplay and scene notes by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Quarto, original pictorial wrappers, illustrated with black-and-white photographs from the film. Signed on the half-title page by five figures central to the picture: Larry Flynt, the Hustler publisher whose First Amendment battle the film dramatizes and who appears in it in a cameo as the judge who sentences him; Milos Forman, the film's director; Oliver Stone, its producer; and the screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. In near fine condition. Afterword conversation with Milos Forman.
The People vs. Larry Flynt dramatizes the career of the Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and his improbable transformation into a First Amendment cause celebre, culminating in the 1988 Supreme Court decision Hustler Magazine v. Falwell, which unanimously upheld the right to satirize public figures. Starring Woody Harrelson as Flynt, Courtney Love as his wife Althea Leasure, and Edward Norton as his lawyer Alan Isaacman, the film won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Golden Globe for Best Director, and brought Forman and Harrelson Academy Award nominations. Alexander and Karaszewski, who had previously written Ed Wood for Tim Burton, became known for biographical films about eccentric and marginal American figures.
