First Penguin paperback edition of Greene’s account of his 1938 trip to Mexico, the counterpart to his award-winning novel The Power and the Glory. Octavo, original wrappers as issued. Ownership name to the front panel and half-title page. In very good condition.

In 1938, Greene traveled to Mexico to see the effects of the government's campaign of forced anti-Catholic secularization. A Catholic and conservative man himself, his travels took him from the northern border towns to Mexico City, and later to Tabasco where he met with atheist activist and cacique of the state, Tomás Garrido Canabal. The trip produced two books, the present travel account and the Hawthornden Prize-winning novel, The Power and the Glory.
