Dersam as “Postmaster at McKeesport, in the County of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania.” Signed at the conclusion by Theodore Roosevelt, and countersigned by Postmaster General George von L. Meyer. Gold foil seal remains affixed. The printed document reads in full: To All To Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greeting: Know Ye, That, Reposing special trust and confidence in the Intelligence, Diligence, and Discretion of John N. Dersam, I do appoint him Postmaster at M. Keesport, in the County of Allegheny, State of Pennsylvania, and do authorize and empower him to execute and fulfill the duties of that office according to the laws of the United States and the regulations of the Post Office Department, and to have and to hold the said office with all the rights and emoluments thereunto legally appertaining unto him, the said John N. Dersam, until the end of the next session of the Senate of the United States and no longer; unless this commission is sooner revokes by the President of the United States for the time being. In Testimony Whereof, I have caused these letters to be made patent, and the seal of the Post Office Department of the United States to be hereunto affixed. Given under my hand at the city of Washington, this “second” day of “April” in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and “seven” and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and thirty first.
