Association copy, inscribed by the author to his son on the title page, “Hallam from A.” Tennyson’s eldest son Hallam Tennyson, 2nd Baron Tennyson served as his father’s personal secretary and served as his official biographer. His Tennyson: a Memoir was published in 1897 and he bequeathed many of his father’s notebooks to Trinity College in 1924. A significant association copy.

Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, “Frederick & Jane Locker from Tennyson.” Tennyson has also inscribed seven lines of verse from the original manuscript of The Cup on pages 80 and 81, inserted in the concluding speech of Synorix, “Nay, rather than to clip the flowery robe of Hymen we should add some golden fringe of gorgeousness beyond old use to make the day memorial, when Synorix, first King, Comma, first Queen o’ the snow here the richest lot from fate, to live and to die together.” In fine condition. Bookplates to the pastedown. Housed in a custom morocco and chemise case. Rare and desirable.

First edition, first issue of the first book in Tennyson’s historical trilogy with “behled” on page 126. Small octavo, bound in full red morocco, gilt titles to the spine, elaborate gilt tooling to the spine and panels, double gilt ruled, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Association copy, signed by Alfred Tennyson on the title page with Ellen Terry’s inscription below, “From her loving Ellen Terry” and below that “Her old friend, Henry Irving.” The recipient, Sir Henry Irving performed in and produced the the first production of Queen Mary at the Lyceum Theatre in April of 1876. The book was likely giving from Tennyson to Irving, and later from Irving and Terry to a female recipient. Henry Irving’s bookplate to the pastedown. In good condition. Rare and desirable signed by Tennyson.
