Oliver Stone's Copy of The Insiders: The truth behind the scandal rocking Wall Street; With his Notes Throughout
STEVENS, MARK [OLIVER STONE].
The Insiders: The Truth Behind the Scandal Rocking Wall Street.
New York: 1987.
First edition of this work on Wall Street, from the library of Oliver Stone, with his numerous pen markings, underlinings ticks, crosses and annotations, “Rewrite – Charlie talking about Gekko.” Oliver Stone‘s iconic film Wall Street, first screened on 13 December 1987, starring Charlie Sheen, Daryl Hannah and Michael Douglas in his Academy Award winning role as Gordon Gekko. The character of Gekko was formed from several influences, including New York stockbrokers Denis Levine and Ivan Boesky whose fall from grace is the subject of Stevens’ book. Gekko’s famous line Greed is good is based on Boesky’s phrase ‘Greed is right’ (Sigesmund, B.J. The Return of Greed, 2002). On page 105 of Stevens’ book, Stone has ticked the 1985 quote of Boesky ‘I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself’. Stevens’ expose of the illegal and unethical trading practises of Wall Street was published several months prior to the release date for the film, while it was still in production. Stone‘s extensive markings and note to re-write a section about Gekko show the influence this work had in the final version of the film. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by One Plus One Studio.
